The Charleston, SC community came together following a tragic event to strengthen their relationship with the police department. The community stakeholders came from neighborhoods, business, education, faith-based organizations, political leaders, LGBTQ groups, law enforcement, media and others. Using the principles of managing dilemmas, Listening Sessions occurred to gather ideas about what both police and citizens could do to work together better. Called The Charleston Illumination Project, it produced goals that closely align with recent National Studies in effective policing. More than 85 strategies were identified and are now being implemented, to the betterment of the Holy City.
